SHL betting

The SHL is Sweden's top hockey league and one of the strongest in Europe, a regular source of NHL players. The regular season runs from September to March, followed by playoffs for the Swedish championship, while the bottom of the table fights to avoid relegation to HockeyAllsvenskan.

Draws after 60 minutes are common in close leagues like this one, which is why the three-way match result is followed so closely. The game then goes to overtime and a shootout for the extra point.

Markets you usually see

• Match result - home, draw or away after regular time.
• Winner including overtime - which team wins, however the game ends.
• Puck line - a handicap, usually a goal and a half.
• Total goals - over or under a line of goals.

Questions people ask

Does overtime count in hockey bets?

The three-way match result is settled on regular time only. A winner market that includes overtime and the shootout says so in its name.

Is there relegation from the SHL?

Yes. The teams at the bottom face a qualification series against the best of HockeyAllsvenskan, the second tier.
